Courses in Flamenco Guitar - GUITAR ART ACADEMY Viterbo:
The Guitar Art Academy has instituted a biannual course in
flamenco guitar addressing guitarists of all levels, taught
by Andrea Mercati, flamenco guitarist and performer.
Duration: Two years
Levels: Students will be placed according
to their skill levels into one of three groups, beginning,
intermediate, and advanced. The course is open to flamenco
guitarists, guitar players of classical and other genres of
music and beginning guitarists.
Program of study: Students will receive lessons according
to their skill level.
Sequence of study: Two monthly individual lessons or (if preferable)
two consecutive days in one weekend a month.
Lodging: The Guitar Art Academy will communicate
with participants regarding facilities near the school (hotels
and bed and breakfasts in Viterbo).

Course in Flamenco Guitar
Beginning Level Program: We will study the
following
Flamenco techniques: picado (rest stroke)
in various combinations for the right hand, rasgueados (strums)
in various rhythms, arpeggios and scales
Structure of rhythmic genres: solea, alegria,
buleria, tango, tientos
Structure of a-rhythmic (free) genres: Fandango, malaguenas
Easy flamenco passages within rhythmic and free genres
Theory of flamenco’s harmonic structure
History of flamenco
Approach to accompanying flamenco dancers
Approach to accompanying flamenco singers
Intermediate Level Program:
We will study the following:

arpeggios, scales, studies on technique
Structure of rhythmic genres: solea, alegria,
buleria, seguiriyas, tango, tientos, tarantos

malaguenas, taranta
Passages of flamenco melodies at an intermediate level within
rhythmic and free genres
Theory of flamenco’s harmonic structure
History of flamenco
